Law & Arbitration

Jim Hurlburt
I received my law degree from Baylor Law School and State Bar of Texas license in 1994. In 2010, I completed my Mediator training required under Texas law. During my 15-year career with BNSF Railway, I routinely utilized arbitration and mediation skills to resolve countless issues with BNSF's 13 labor unions.

Experience matters when alternative dispute measures aren't successful. I have a lengthy record of proven success in the courtroom and various ADR venues. My law practice areas include Railroad, Construction, Insurance Defense, Labor & Employment, Eminent Domain, and Estate Planning. My arbitration experience includes disputes around contracts, collective bargaining agreements, and employment termination matters.

I am currently on the National Mediation Board roster of arbitrators accepting railroad and airline cases and available for other employment and ADR matters. I'm a National Association of Railroad Referees (NARR) member. Representative panel appointments include BNSF and SMART TD.

I understand that legal matters don't always present clear-cut issues. I take the time to prepare and present cases in a manner to contain legal costs and move cases forward quickly and efficiently. I have represented clients in public and private sectors, both for-profit and non-profit organizations, as well as individuals.
